Hardly a day passes by that we hear of another incident involving Islam. A doctor is killed for serving the people of his country on a humanitarian basis. Temples and Mosques are being destroyed, taking the lives of innocent worshippers. How ironic is it, that these countries who are meant to represent Islam, which itself means peace, show no sign of peace whatsoever. These Muslims who are meant to follow the character of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), are some of the most inhumane people across the globe. Is this the true Islam? Unfortunately, we see the loss of innocent human lives happening everyday in some of the most Muslim populated countries around the world. Is this the true Islam? These Muslims, who claim to be Muslims, are unable to practise some of the greatest commandments of Allah. These Muslims, are unable to see that this bloodshed isn't bringing them closer to Allah, rather bringing them closer to the fire of Hell.
In order to see the beauty of a religion, we shouldn't rely on people and media alone. We should go back in history, look at the figures who began these religions and turn to the significant books for these religions. The Qur'an promotes peace. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) promoted peace. This is the message that we must spread to the world. We must make the world realize that murder in the name of Allah is the opposite of what we Muslims have been taught.
QURAN
Allah states in the Holy Qur'an:
"Whosoever killed a person - unless it be for killing a person or for creating disorder in the land - it shall be as if he had killed all mankind." (Al Maidah, 5:33)
THE PROMISED MESSIAH (AS)
The Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, in regards to this verse, stated:
"A person who kills a person unfairly or who kills someone who had neither rebelled, not became a source of violating peace amongst the people nor created disorder in the land, it is as if he has killed the whole of mankind. In other words to kill a person without any cause is, according to God Almighty, like the murder of the entire human race. It is obvious from this verse, how big a sin it is to take the life of another person without reason." (Lecture Chashma-e-Marifat - Pages 23-24: Commentary by the Promised Messiah Vol.2: p.405)
He also stated that:
He who abandons kindness abandons religion. The Holy Qur'an teaches that whosoever kills a person without justifiable cause will be as if he has killed the whole world. In the same way, I say that if someone is not kind unto his brother, it is like he has been unkind to the whole world." (Al Hakm Vol. 9 No. 15 (April 30 1905) p.2: Commentary by the Promised Messiah, Vol.2: p.405)
These are all examples of the beautiful teaching of Islam that make the unlawful shedding of innocent blood to be equal to killing the entire human race. Whosoever acts against this, is acting against the teachings of Islam. Islam teaches kindness to fellow human beings, so killing anyone does not fall under this teaching at all.
TERRORISM
Sadly, the media places Islam and terrorism in the same category, causing the world to associate terrorism with Islam. However, not only Islam, but no true religion (whatever its name) can sanction violence and bloodshed of innocent people all in the name of Allah. Terrorists may use religious or political labels, but we shouldn't be deceived by their ways and treacherous tricks. They have nothing to do with religion or Islam. They are enemies of peace and they must be combated at every level as advocated by Islam, the religion of peace.
Islam gives three steps against terrorism:
- To give excellent moral upbringing to all Muslims so that they grow up to be upright, just, moral, kind and loving people who never disrupt the peace of others.
- If the peace is disrupted, sincerely pray for the evildoers to change their ways.
- If all reasoning fails, join forces with all good people to combat those who do mischief until the peace has been restored but always keep the command of justice in view.
The Ahmadiyya Community has had to deal with not being accepted as a religion or as Muslims in many countries. Sadly, many Ahmadis are losing their lives, only for being an Ahmadi. However, we have not lost our faith in Allah, and we continue to promote peace. These martyrs are making us a stronger community as a whole. We don't require the need to kill or disturb the peace in order to prove our strength, abilities and truthfulness.
The present Khalifa (Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (may Allah strengthen his hands)) stated in the Friday Sermon delivered on May 23rd, 2014 that:
"Ways adopted by worldly people are violent rallies and protestations and riots, they respond to persecution with oppression because they have not been given Divine promises that the ultimate triumph will be theirs. Whereas we have been promised that in spite of state sponsored persecution God has decreed that we will be given those blessings which are bestowed upon true believers through God's special grace. We have been promised that the sacrifices given will never go to waste and the ultimate triumph will be ours. The greatest formula for this triumph is of course prayer. The more we will turn to prayers and the more we will devote ourselves to our Lord, the sooner He will show extraordinary signs in our favour."

EXTRACT FROM 'MURDER IN THE NAME OF ALLAH'
I will end with the last few words of Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (ra) [The fourth successor of the Promised Messiah (as)] in his book Murder In The Name Of Allah:
"As a man of religion, and head of a spiritual community of followers who have faced a century of persecution, terror and cruelty, I most strongly condemn all acts and forms of terrorism because it is my deeply rooted belief that not only Islam but also no true religion, whatever its name, can sanction violence and the bloodshed of innocent men, women and children in the name of God.
God is Love, God is peace!
Love can never beget hatred,
and peace can never lead to war."
